Sony PlayStation VR headset undercuts rivals

Sony PlayStation VR headset undercuts rivals  20 03 2016

Sony has revealed that its virtual reality headset will cost $399 (£282) in the US.
That makes it $200 cheaper than Facebook's rival Oculus Rift and $400 less than HTC's Vive.
The PlayStation VR is seen as less advanced than its two rivals, but many experts think it will outsell them.
However, the disclosure that it will not be released until October means Sony will fail to meet its earlier target of the first half of 2016.
The Japanese company also revealed that it expects more than 50 games tailored to its headset will be available at its launch.
It made its announcement in San Francisco to coincide with the city's Games Developers Conference.
Retailers have confirmed that the UK price - which includes the VAT sales tax - will be £350.
There are currently more than 230 developers and publishers are working on PlayStation VR software titles - from smaller independent teams to larger studios at the industry's top publishers.
160 titles are in development, and 50 of those - including Eagle Flight (Ubisoft), EVE: Valkyrie (CCP Games), Headmaster (Frame Interactive), Rez Infinite(Enhance Games) and Wayward Sky (Uber Entertainment) - are expected to launch by the end of this year.
Additionally, Electronic Arts, DICE and Lucasfilm are working on an all-new Star Wars Battlefront gaming experience for PlayStation VR.
However, PlayStation isn't just for gaming. There's also something called "Cinematic mode", which will let you play flatscreen games or watch movies, according to Sony.
Supported content for the Cinematic mode includes standard PS4 games and videos as well as variety of PS4 features including Share Play and Live from PlayStation.
Users will also be able to enjoy 360 degrees photos and videos that are captured by devices such as omnidirectional cameras on PS VR via PS4 Media Player, which will let them feel as if they are physically inside the captured scene
